Man has had a long and close relationship with horses that has lasted for thousands of years. What made that first man attempt to ride a horse we can only guess at. This long history has led to us selectively breeding certain types of horses to suit our needs. This has given us many different horse breeds from carthorses, to horses bred to carry knights into battle and horse bred to become racehorses and all types in between.
