Besides helping individuals who have been outplaced from their jobs, outplacement consultants also act as recruiters. They advertise their services to companies who are looking to hire employees, and then they screen the people they work with on a daily basis. Once they find someone with a skill set that matches the one the employer is looking for, they help that individual prepare for the interview. They may send three or four candidates through the interview process. Sometimes, even if a candidate is not selected, the interview helps them hone their skills so they will be more prepared for the next one. This is a winning situation for the hiring company as well as for the qualified worker seeking employment because the agency does all the legwork.
