If the student in your life has cast their eyes on a student credit card application recently, there is something that you can do to protect you as well as them — as their parent, make sure that their credit limit is set very low — perhaps $500 or $1000 maximum. By setting their credit limit very low, you are making sure that they cannot run up a huge bill on their credit card that they cannot repay. In the future, once they have proven themselves to be responsible — and especially if they take on a higher paying job — their credit limit can be increased.
